These number flashcards help children connect a written numeral with its number name. I use them for short, playful practice rather than asking a young child to memorise the whole set in one sitting.
Ways to play with these number cards
- Put three to five cards in order, then add one new card when the sequence feels easy.
- Choose a card and build that quantity with buttons, blocks or small toys.
- Place the numeral and number-name cards face down and play a simple matching game.
- Hide one card from a sequence and ask your child which number is missing.
Build understanding before speed
Say the number name slowly and point out its beginning sound. For easily confused numerals, let your child trace the shape in the air before finding it on the table.
Mix recognition with movement: ask your child to jump, clap or collect the number shown. This shows whether the number has meaning beyond the printed card.
Parent tip: Work with a small group of numbers and stop while the activity is still enjoyable. Confident recognition grows through frequent, relaxed repetition.
