Games to play with the 72 cards
- Sort a mixed group into two categories and ask your child to explain each choice.
- Play “What is missing?” with three or four cards.
- Choose an odd card out and accept any answer your child can explain logically.
- Describe a card without naming it and let the other person guess.
Grow vocabulary through conversation
Move beyond naming by asking about colour, use, movement, sound, location or personal experience. A child who can say “bus” can also learn “A bus carries many people” or compare it with a car.
Use a small selection at a time. Rotate the sets through the week and combine cards from different themes only when the individual categories feel familiar.
Parent tip: Print on sturdy paper or laminate the cards if they will be handled often. Store each theme in a labelled envelope so children can help choose and pack away the activity.
